2009 CHARITY BENEFICIARIES

2009 COSIA Charity Beneficiaries: Save the Children, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and In the Spirit of the Children, Inc.

Cultivating Our Sisterhood International Association, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) women’s nonprofit organization committed to expanding women’s social support networks, providing personal and professional development opportunities, and coordinating volunteer and fundraising activities that benefit women and youth from underserved communities. Each year, COSIA identifies another 501(c)(3) organization whose mission and goals align with ours and would benefit from access to financial and volunteer service support.

Our 2009 charity beneficiaries were Save the Children, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and In the Spirit of the Children, Inc.

Save the Children, an international not-for-profit organization, creates lasting change in the lives of children in need in the United States and around the world. When disaster strikes around the world, Save the Children is there to save lives with food, medical care and education and remains to help communities rebuild through long-term recovery programs.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been at the forefront of a wide range of suicide prevention initiatives -- each designed to reduce loss of life from suicide.

In the Spirit of the Children, Inc., a Harlem-based not-for-profit organization, is one of the first non-residential, community-based programs established to provide daily support services to youth transitioning out of New York City's foster care system. The mission of this organization is the firm belief in the intrinsic ability of all families to improve their own conditions, once given the tools needed, and offers young adults who are leaving foster care to live on their own a continuum of services in order to prevent homelessness and promote successful independent adulthood.
